I met Kulwant online by chance when I was asked to contribute my quote for his blog related to an SEO Experts roundup in 2020.

After I was informed my quote was published, I found Kulwant on Linkedin to thank him for his invitation and went to his website’s “about me” page.

I found his story really inspiring and felt that there are a lot of people out there who can benefit from learning more about his personal journey that was filled with adversity and challenges and how he rose above it all and now living the dream doing what he loves.

I hope you enjoy our interview as much as we did!

Building a 6 figure Affiliate Marketing Business from Point Zero - Kulwant Nagi - Joanna Vaiou Leadership column

How Kulwant Nagi Built a 6 figure per year Affiliate Marketing Business from Zero” – Interview is a part of the “When Top Industry Leaders Speak” Column by Joanna Vaiou

Hello Kulwant, so good to have you here! Please, tell us a little about you, your background and where you are at the moment.

Hello Everyone.

I am very happy to be here and very excited to share my story with all of you.

I am from a very small town in Haryana (India). I have done my schooling in government schools in the Hindi language. As my parents are not so educated, neither they could afford my education in English medium schools nor they had the knowledge of the importance of English in life.

I spent 20 years studying in my hometown and then went to New Delhi for my higher study.

I always wanted to become a successful person in my life so I decided to go to the USA for higher studies and cracked the GRE and TOEFL examination in 2011. I got admission to 6 universities in the USA and one university offered me a $16,000 scholarship.

I was so happy because I was going to the USA for my higher studies.

But soon, this happiness got converted into sadness when my father told me that he didn’t have the money to afford my education in the USA.

I had to drop that plan and I started my first job as a VLSI verification engineer in December 2011.

Soon I got frustrated with the 9 to 5 job routine and I decided to resign without having any idea what I am going to do after that.

I found the word “blogging” and started doing research in June 2011.

After doing 3 months of research and reading so many articles, I started my first blog in September 2011 and later I started my blog BloggingCage.com in January 2012.

You write the following on your “About me page”: “From my childhood, my thinking was beyond the stars and I wanted to do something extra, something very big in my life”. Tell us about your dreams you had as a child. How clear were your dreams back then?

I always wanted to become better than others. I was always a studious guy and very active in sports too.

I was the monitor of my class for 10 years and always the caption of every sport we used to play in my childhood.

I can say that leadership skill was always there in my blood.

Whenever I used to see or meet any successful person, I used to imagine myself in their place. I was very keen to learn new things and my learning ability was much better than my friends.

As I had seen my family struggling for money, I always wanted to give them a comfortable life and that was possible only and only when I could do something awesome in my life.

What were the limitations you faced as an ambitious individual and a big dreamer in your country, India? How did you overcome the challenges and hardships?

As previously mentioned, the conditions at my family were not that good so one thing which stopped me from moving ahead in my life was my basic education.

When I moved out of my city for higher education, I couldn’t understand English.

Even my teachers declared that Kulwant would be the only guy who would fail in the class.

So English always became an obstacle to achieving bigger dreams in life.

Soon I identified this problem and I started taking English class.

Soon after 2 years, my English was better and now I was ready to move ahead in my life.

Why did you become an Entrepreneur? What does entrepreneurship and specifically the “online type” mean to you?

I don’t consider myself an Entrepreneur.

I think saying myself a blogger would be perfect.

When I started reading books in 2011, I found that most of the people who were successful in their life were businessmen or entrepreneurs.

They had the luxury to work on their own time and spend precious time with their loving family.

Now we are living in an age where failure is impossible.

This “online type” opportunity has given us so much freedom and resources that you cannot fail. If you are a passionate, enthusiastic and action taker person, your chances of failure are near to zero.

If you have the commitment and dedication to do something in your life, we are living in the best time of human history. Go pick your phone and do the magic.

What role did traveling play in your personal and professional development as an online entrepreneur?

Travelling made me a better person in managing myself, managing my money and being more open-minded.

When I started traveling in 2015, I liked it so much. I could spend the time with myself, do some crazy management for myself (booking flights, hotels, eating food, etc.) and I started meeting new people.

In 2016, I traveled to 12 countries and expanded my thinking.

I have attended so many events in various countries which helped me to gain a lot of knowledge in digital marketing and I started implementing it to boost my business.

How did you build a world-known reputable blog in English when it is not even your native language?

I was blessed enough to identify this problem and I took the instant action.

Rather than spending endless days thinking about how I would overcome this problem, I went to the market, paid the money and started my English education.

I used to travel for 4-5 hours every weekend to attend my classes which I continued for approx 2 years.

Soon that money and time paid me back and I became better in speaking and writing English.

What is your mission and purpose with Blogging Cage blog? Who are you helping and how do you practically achieve this?

When I started this blog in 2012, my mission was to help newbies to start their blog.

What are 5 pieces of advice you would like to share with other people worldwide who also dream of becoming successful entrepreneurs, while at the same, time deal with numerous limitations and restricting circumstances that make their path difficult?

  1. Everything which you need to succeed in online marketing is learn-able. It might take time but you can learn anything by seeing the videos and reading the blogs these days.
  2. Blogging, online marketing or anything you do online is no less than a business. Consider it your business and invest the money to grow it.
  3. Focus on ONE thing and do more research around that ONE thing. The Internet is filled with a lot of information for getting distracted very easily. Find your ONE thing and focus on it.
  4. Every professional blogger was once a newbie like you. Keep learning, implementing and improving. That’s the mantra of success.
  5. Learn how to manage your time. Read more books and follow the right mentors.

In a few words, how can a person become a full-time blogger (an affiliate marketer) earning 6 figures per year?

Becoming better at something is just a mindset.
